Teen Advisory Board Meeting at Urbana Library: Photo of the Day 02/06/20

This month’s topic at Urbana Regional Library’s Teen Advisory Board (TAB) meeting was Representation in Young Adult Literature. While eating Manhattan Pizza, students were educated about representation in young adult literature and learned the importance of getting another perspective on historical events and societal issues from a guest speaker from Frederick Community College. The speaker allowed the audience to ask questions related to literature, and gave out book recommendations written by and featuring people of color. Following the presentation, new volunteers were introduced to TAB requirements and upcoming volunteer opportunities, and all members elected new leaders to head student-run committees.
Serving your community is a great way to give back. If you are interested in volunteering at Urbana Regional Library, fill out an application form on the library’s website. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month, and individual activities vary in date and time.
