Depending on class size, every couple weeks the AP studio art displays switch out and shows students’ amazing artwork.
AP Studio is a unique and challenging class that is here at Urbana. Unlike regular art classes where you focus on learning specific techniques and doing projects based on assignments, AP Studio Art is all about developing projects in your own style.
Students are assigned a multitude of artworks with different prompts and challenges and create a cohesive portfolio to submit to college board. They come up with a plan on what they’re going to make or draw and start drafting their art.
Ioana Cornilescu (Class of 2025) talks about the artwork she created. She says “The one with the fruits was done for my AP Studio Art portfolio which was about vampires, and it’s supposed to be about the romanticization of violence and human consumption. The fruits are intestines and the pomegranate that is being held up is the heart, so it’s supposed to look pretty so you lose focus of what’s actually happening.”
The critique sessions in AP Studio Art are intense but super helpful to students. You get to show your work to the class and get feedback from your teacher and peers. Stop by the AP Studio display to see these wonderful works of art!
