On Sunday night, the first winter storm of the year flurried through Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C.
School was cancelled for Frederick County Public Schools January 6 and 7. On January 8 and 9, schools opened their doors two hours later than usual.
Due to poor plowing decisions, Urbana High students were left to park on top of snow and ice.
The ice frozen over roads and parking spots is a hazard which is a leading reason for cancelling school.
It might have been seen as safe for Urbana staff, but with new student drivers, it is seen as a safety hazard.
Micheal Asantee, class of 2025, spoke on his driving experience with the weather, “My usual parking spot was filled with snow, so I had to park somewhere else.”
If Dr. Dyson decides that road conditions are safe despite harsh weather, they should take the proper precautions to ensure the safety of students when walking and driving to school.
Stay safe and stay warm out there!
