She’s a leader, singer, songwriter, performer, and proud Urbana cheerleader. Meet one of our brightest stars, sophomore Gabi Dwoskin.

Performance has always been a big passion of Gabi’s. For starters, she’s a part of the UHS Drama Club. When I asked what drew her to performing arts, she told me, “Honestly- I’m not really sure- theater was just always something I did and I was just always in love with it for as long as I can remember.” Here, she works with the Drama Club on productions like the recent Pink Panther Strikes Again, or the upcoming parody play, The Bold, the Young, and the Murdered. But, it was this past year that Gabi started creating her own music…

During the pandemic, Gabi started writing original songs and posting them to her music Instagram account. “I got a keyboard for my birthday one year ago because I wanted to write music. I learned a bit during the break for covid, and really struggled to write something I liked. When I finally wrote a song I liked, I became even more interested in listening and taking inspiration from my favorite artists, and it just connects me with music even more.” -those artists include Bruno Major and Billie Eillish. For now, songwriting is just a side hobby. “It’s very therapeutic and challenges me.”

Aside from theatre and music, Gabi is currently enjoying French 3, dancing with the UHS poms team, and working as a board member with Anashim BBYO! “BBYO is a Jewish teen group, and I’m the president of our new Frederick Chapter! It’s just a place for us to do fun activities and connect more, I really enjoy it.”

As for the future, “Honestly I have no clue- no matter what career path I take though, it will definitely always be something I appreciate or do for fun.” For now, you can catch Gabi in UHS Drama’s upcoming play, The Bold, the Young, and the Murdered on January 22nd!
