It’s a new school year, and with it comes the excitement of clubs starting up again!
DIY for Good is a club where students partake in making different crafts for the community, channel their creativity into making various crafts for local charities and organizations in Frederick.
This club meets every club day during second block, providing a dedicated time for students to gather and collaborate on creative projects.
It also brings an environment of teamwork and collaboration for people, allowing members to come together and build new friendships with one another.
Mr. Gregory Brubaker, the club supervisor, shared his thoughts on why he chose to lead this club. “I thought it was a great opportunity for students to come together and create something that could then be used for charitable purposes or to improve the community.” Brubaker is committed to leading a creative and positive space for students, and has a vision for the club.
Brubaker described the exciting plans for the next meeting. “We already have donated our last club meeting, where we made dog toys for the Humane Society charity. This upcoming club day, we are going to be making Halloween masks for underprivileged kids.”
These hands-on activities and crafts not only provide benefits to those in need but also allow students to experience the good feeling of giving back firsthand.
DIY for good promotes the idea that anyone can contribute to positive social change through hands-on projects. The members learn that their individual actions, no matter how small, can lead to significant change in the lives of others. Club member Kaitlin Satterwhite (Class of 2025) shared her thoughts on the club’s potential and what inspired her to join the DIY for good club. Satterwhite expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I like the idea of helping people, and I enjoy the feeling that I’m doing good for others.”
She also emphasized her belief that the club will succeed, saying, “I think a lot of people in the school are interested in joining clubs that help others and make a difference in the community.”
Club member Brynn Mcpeak (Class of 2025) expressed her own thoughts on getting involved with DIY for good club, saying, “I really like the idea of helping people in need, which influenced me to be the secretary of the club. I also think this club will be extremely successful because at our first meeting, the room was overflowing with people, and everyone was engaged in making dog toys.”
As the school year progresses, DIY for good will continue to meet every club day, bringing students together to create things that will benefit others.
