The Urbana High School soccer team has had their first home game of the season against Governor Thomas Johnson High School. Going into this game Urbana is 1-0-1 and were on a mission to bounce back from their last loss.
GOV TJ had a strong start into the game with a goal within the first minute putting stress on our team. However with this goal Urbana jumped back on their feet to lock down on GOV TJ and not let any goals through.
Jorge Ortega (Right Winger) was able to put his foot down and move with a counter attack and be able to bring Urbana back into the game with a goal 30 minutes after GOV TJ’s first goal. Othniel Kipalu (Goalkeeper) got back into his game with being able to have six saves throughout the game.
Arman Alibakhshi’s (Center Back ) performance as a center back highlighted him being able to put a stop and playing part with helping his team defend against GOV TJ. Arman was able to intercept the ball, play it back and allow his team to take it up the field.
The game ended in a tie with both teams scoring one goal in the first half. Lucas Godfroy (Midfielder) stated after the game “I was confident in our team to be able to come back and at least tie it back up to not lose against GOV TJ tonight.”
Urbana is now 1-1-1 and looking to win on Thursday September 12th against Churchill to be able to jump back in and put their foot back on the ball.
