Class of 2025 took over the legacy field this morning. Everyone huddled up in blankets, winter jackets, and Dunkin donuts. The morning weather was thirty-six degrees.
This has been an ongoing tradition and many high schools participate in it. Usually Senior Sunrise is at the beginning of the year to still get some warm weather.
This year it has been hectic for class president William Knepper to find a date and work around events. Friday mornings were for field hockey practice so they could not use them for Senior Sunrise.
The first failed attempt was supposed to be on September 26 but Hurricane Helen had other plans. This was supposed to be right before homecoming.
October 17 was the date Knepper decided on and it ended up being clear skies and a beautiful sunrise. This was perfect because there was no school Friday October 18. Waking up so early just knowing you can sleep in the next day definitely had a great effect. Though it was cold it created new experiences and feels for the upcoming holiday seasons.
Senior Sammy Semelsberger explains his experience this Senior Sunrise, “Me and my friends got there at 6:30 am, we played music in the car on the way, and Sean Sipes had Dunkin Donuts waiting for us. We ate about 20 donuts. We enjoyed the sunrise and then we left because it was really cold.”
Most people don’t want to wake up so early since it starts at 6:30 am. Despite this, many join because it’s the last year to do things with the people you’ve grown up with or gotten to know.
It’s an emotional moment seeing your whole class get together just a few more times until the caps are thrown into the air. Senior Ava Knapp says “it was so chilly but so worth it I had so much fun with my friends.”
That’s a wrap for the chilly Senior Sunrise class of 2025. Until next year sunrise.
