Are you interested in non-competitive theater productions? Are you looking for opportunities to view unique and interesting performances? Do you want to support UHS Drama? Then Broadway Backwards might be the event for you.
Broad Backwards is an event that appeals to theater students looking to participate in a fun and exciting event. During the performance, students will showcase their talents through dances or songs that they haven’t done before or don’t often do.
Auditions concluded on Nov. 12 and 14, but rehearsals are coming up soon on Dec. 2 and 3.
The International Thespian Society (ITS), an honor society for theater, is running the event. In addition they are having their own choreographed dance for the event. Rehearsals will be on Mondays and Thursdays every week, from 2:45 to 4:00 p.m. For Broadway Backwards, the ITS are planning on performing “I’m just Ken” from the movie “Barbie” in a mashup with the song “Dance the Night Away.” The performance is being choreographed by Bella Medina (Class of 2025) and Emma Gadbois (Class of 2026).
What’s interesting about this performance is that it captures the essence of Broadway Backwards; the boys will be playing as Barbies while the girls will be playing as Kens, though ITS performers can choose which role they would like to be via a Google form they filled out. Performers can also choose to partner with someone else, but one of the partners must be Ken while the other must be Barbie.
Broadway Backwards is scheduled to take place on Friday, Dec. 6, at 7:00 p.m. “[Viewers] should expect something different. They should experience a variance of performances and something they are not expecting to see,” says Medina.
