Today marks Urbana students’ favorite day of the month, club day! Usually held on the last Friday of each month, club day splits our four blocks in half, with the second half dedicated to our beloved extracurriculars. Let’s focus on one of the underrated options, the Film and Media Club!
Led by 10th grade English teacher Ms. Sarah Yinger, the Film and Media Club dives into the analysis of movies and films. You might be wondering, “What exactly do they do?”
In the club, members learn about elements like themes, tone, plot, character motivations, and more. Sophomore Lily Reed, a current member, thoroughly enjoys her experience there. She shared, “We learn about different movies and watch a variety of genres.”
If Reed could choose a movie to study for the club, she would pick “Where the Crawdads Sing.” “It’s very well-written and beautifully put together,” she explained. “I would love to learn more about its deeper meaning, and I believe this club would help me do that.”
Everyone has a “comfort” movie, whether it’s a specific film or genre, and that’s perfectly okay! However, it’s also important to broaden your cinematic horizons.
Reed also mentioned, “The information I’ve learned has definitely changed my perspective on movies, and I believe this club will do the same for others.”
Joining the Film and Media Club offers a unique opportunity to discover new films and have fun exploring the many ways stories can be told. So why not see what this club’s about and dive deeper into the cinematic experience?
