The Urbana High School Drama team is back at it again with another production, set to take place in April 2025.
Once again, the department is taking inspiration from old school horror productions, much like the “Night of the Living Dead” production shown to audiences in October of 2024.
This time, the production is based on the 1982 off-Broadway musical “Little Shop of Horrors.” The musical stars a floral assistant who finds a mysterious, blood-lusted carnivorous plant that he soon discovers is more than it seems.
In preparation for the event, UHS Drama students are busy at work auditioning for the musical. On Dec. 17, students were involved in dance auditions and choreography; later dates will see UHS Drama students further auditioning for voice and acting roles before the cast list is posted during winter break.
Choreography for the show is being directed by Ms. Kiara Lu, a new choreographer at UHS.
Talking on the atmosphere of the auditorium during dance auditions, auditioner Chris Oh commented that, “there’s a very nice atmosphere where all of the students are supporting each other through the audition process.”
The production is being directed by Mr. Stephen Ward, and the play’s show dates are scheduled for several April dates, including April 3 and April 4 at 7:00 p.m, as well as on April 5 at both 1:00 p.m and 7:00 p.m.
UHS Drama has a website where information about productions and the current season are posted.
