If you look outside at the flags after Dec. 29 2024, you can see that all the flags of Maryland and the American flag were brought down to only half-staff.
On Dec. 29 2024, former President of the United States, James Earl Carter Jr., died. He served as President from 1977 to 1981 and achieved the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize after finding peaceful solutions to international conflicts.
In response to the former president’s death, the U.S. government has ordered to fly all American flags at half-mast from December 29 2024 all the way up to January 21 2025 to honor him.
Mrs. Rose Shapiro, UHS Secretary, said “The central office emailed us to tell the custodial staff to lower the flags this morning.”
The flag is also brought half-staff for many other reasons, if you want to learn more click this link.
As we continue to honor President Carter, it’s important we know the reason behind the position of flags across the country.
