The recent snow at Urbana has not only impacted the educational side of school with multiple days off and delays, but has also caused many Urbana athletic events to be cancelled.
Whenever there is a day off of school or an early dismissal due to weather, all school-run athletic events get cancelled for the day.
The changes began on Friday with Urbana boys and girls basketball postponing their game against Gov. Thomas Johnson High School. Urbana wrestling then had to postpone a tournament that was being held at South Hagerstown High School. Urbana swim also had to postpone their dual meet against Linganore High School on Friday because of the snow.
Then on Monday, Urbana swim had another one of their dual meets against Brunswick High School postponed because of that day off of school. Wrestling also had to postpone a duel meet against Linganore on Monday.
With two of their meets postponed, swimmers such as Andrej Gibson (Class of 2025) have been forced to deal with the schedule changes. Gibson made it clear that the postponed meets can be an issue to the team when he said, “The snow days have impacted our swim schedule a lot, we got two meets postponed and creates a lot of problems in our schedule.”
Along with these events, all teams weren’t able to hold official practices or workouts on the days off, which can be crucial in the midpoint of their seasons.
With days off turning into delays and full days of school, athletic events are going back to normal and teams are hoping to return to form as playoffs and championship season approaches.
