In the main hall at UHS is a large poster to remind us of the resolutions we made for 2025. The poster is entitled “We Will Make 2025 Shimmer” and includes resolutions from students and staff for the new year. On New Year’s Day these resolutions seem like guiding principles, but as January wears on, they frequently become forgotten dreams.
Keeping New Year’s resolutions is not easy. The second Friday in January is even recognized as Quitter’s Day, which is the day “when people are most likely to throw in the towel on their resolutions.” Dr. Asim Shah of the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) has researched resolutions and found that “studies show that 88 percent of people who set New Year resolutions fail them within the first two weeks.”
But at UHS we intend to keep our resolutions for 2025. The “We Will Make 2025 Shimmer” poster will help remind us of the commitments we’ve made and to remember we are not quitters. Nyla Rahim (Class of 2028) said it best, “We’re going to make 2025, better, and shimmer and all sorts of things that are positive by getting the negative energies out the way because negative is not the way to go, positive always.”
