Last night UHS Girl’s JV and Varsity Lacrosse played against the Oakdale Bears in a very competitive home game. The Girl’s JV game started at 5:30 and ended with a huge 18-0 win for Urbana’s JV team. Sophomore Ella Landon was named the attack player of the game scoring 4 goals in 5 shots. The defensive player of the game was Sophomore Ashley Kight with 3 ground balls and one goal. The Varsity Lacrosse game began at 7:00 and was a close, well-matched game. Throughout the 1st quarter the scores stayed close with Oakdale leading by one or two points. Junior Hannah Orens scored for Urbana within the last 4 minutes bringing the score to Bears 7 – Hawks 6. Then, with only 4 seconds to spare in the 1st quarter, Urbana scored a goal closing to score to Bears 8 – Hawks 7.

After half time Urbana came back strong, scoring a goal quickly to tie the game 8-8. Urbana continued to score and pulled ahead of the Bears. After a brief pause due to lightning, Oakdale reclaimed the ball and continued to get multiple free shots from the 8 meter line, similar to penalty shots. These shots allowed Oakdale to gain the lead, despite tough defense from Urbana players Nellie O’Brien and Emma Jackson. The hard-fought game ended with a very close score of 13-15, with Oakdale pulling ahead at the very end. Urbana Girl’s Lacrosse has a busy week with more games on Thursday and Friday. Make sure to come out to support the team on Friday April 26th for their Senior Night home game against South Hagerstown.
