6 Emotional Books That Will Make You Cry

1. The Sun is also a Star

There is no doubt that this is one of the greatest books to ever exist. Nicola Yoon’s The Sun is Also a Star is a heart-wrenching, bittersweet book that will definitely leave you with tears, it sure did for me. This book is mostly written through the eyes of two people, Natasha and Daniel. This is a book about how the smallest gestures can form connections and change the course of life.

2.  All the Bright Places

Okay, this book is a really hard one. The sadness you will feel when you finish reading this book will be impossible to put into words. It will make you angry and sad and bitter. All the Bright Places explores some serious topics like suicide and mental illness. It’s the kind of book that will make you hurt, but reading it will definitely be worth it.

3. The Fault in our Stars

We all know this one. The Fault in our Stars is originally a book, but most people now know it as a movie. Though this book is heartbreakingly sad, it is also light and funny at times. You will fall in love with both of the characters and know what it’s like to live their lives. This book will make you ache and cry. You may be angry because of the bittersweet ending or you may just be upset. Either way, you will definitely end up in tears after reading this book.

4. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

You might have had to read this book for school or at least watched the movie. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is a Holocaust-fiction book. It is a devastating book and the fact that it’s based on events that happened in the past makes it even more so. I didn’t anticipate the ending which made me cry even more.

5. Me Before You

Another book to movie, Me Before You is a story that will make you laugh and smile and cry. The main focus about this book is about life and the importance of choices. The story is about Lou who needs a job and Will who needs a carer after an accident left him paralyzed. This is another book that will leave your heart empty with a sad feeling.

6. Wonder

I left the happy book for last. By no means is Wonder a light read, but the ending is happy and sweet. Wonder is one of those books where you want to give all the characters a big hug and tell them that everything will be fine. This book is about August’s story. 10 year old Auggie is going to school for the first time in his life and he needs to learn new rules, how to interact and make friends. On top of that, he has a severe facial deformity so all the problems in 5th grade have higher stakes. Yes, this book has a happy ending but make no mistake, it will make you cry, I guarantee that.
