2019 has been a great year for new music. Whether it’s well-known artists releasing great new songs or new artists first entering into the world of music. Here are the top 8 artists from 2019. This list focuses specifically on what artists have done during this year.

8.Beyonce

This year Beyonce released her album Homecoming:The Live Album. The album is from her 2018 Coachella set where she headlined the festival. It includes plenty live versions of her older songs and songs specially performed at the Coachella show. The album also has a Destiny’s Child reunion and a collaboration with Jay-Z.

7.Drake

Drake has had a very successful 2019. At the Billboard Music awards he won 13 awards, including Top Rap Artist and Top Artist. This made him the top award winner ever at the Billboard Music Awards. Drake also released his new album/mixtape called So Far Gone. This album includes many collaborations with artists such as Lykke Li, and is Drake’s take on many of his favorite songs.

6.Khalid

This year Khalid released his second full-length album, Free Spirit, the follow-up to Suncity and American Teen. The album quickly hit the no. 1 spot on the Billboard’s Top 200 albums chart an has stayed in the top 5. The album doesn’t disappoint, continuing the artists well-known style but changing to address Khalid’s new perspective as an adult. The album consists of 17 songs, the most popular being his song “Talk”.

5.BTS

BTS continues to compound on their success year after year. In 2019 BTS continues to be relevant with their new album Map of the Soul: Persona. For this album BTS partnered with Halsey for the track “Boy with Luv”. The song became wildly popular, especially in the USA. The kpop group then went on to perform this song at the 2019 Billboard Music awards where they also won awards for Top Group and Top Social Artist.

4.Lil Nas X

Lil Nas X is an example of a new artist first entering the music scene in 2019. He rose to popularity due to his song Old Town Road. The song made it to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 list and stayed at No. 1 for seven weeks. Critics praised the song for crossing together the very different genres of country and rap.

3.The Jonas Brothers

2019 was a very important year because unexpectedly the Jonas Brothers reunited. The dropped their first song Sucker at the beginning of the year shocking many people who had no idea they were getting back together. The song does not disappoint and it’s obvious how their music has evolved since the band originally split. The band plans to follow up Sucker with a full-length album Happiness Begins which is planned to be released on June 9th. The brothers are also releasing a documentary called Chasing Happiness about their split and eventual reunion.

2.Billie Eilish

This new artist came into 2019 to prove that she is still relevant and will continue to be for many years. She did exactly this with her album ‘WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?’. The album is different from her earlier album, it is much darker and more unexpected. Fans love it though, as her tour for the album sold out almost immediately. Her album peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 list and stayed there for 2 weeks and has continued to remain steady at the number 2 spot.

1.Ariana Grande

This year Ariana Grande released her new album ‘thank u, next’ only a year after her last album ‘Sweetener’. The fact that she released two full-length albums in such a short period is impressive enough, but then follow that up with the fact that both her albums debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 list. Her album ‘thank u, next’ also had the biggest streaming week for any pop album ever. This album produced many more popular and iconic songs such as the title track thank u, next and the song 7 rings. Grande is also holding a ‘thank u, next’ tour to promote her album. This impressive feat along with the many other collaborations she produced this year made her the top of this list.
