High school girls from all over the county attended the Women in Science and Engineering Meeting last night. The meeting, which began at 7:00 P.M., took place at the Earth and Space Science Lab. After a quick icebreaker activity, the girls got to listen to Dr. Darlene Gabeau, a neuroscientist and radiation oncologist. Gabeau, who is currently a medical director at Lifebridge Heath’s Carroll Hospital Center, earned her M.D. and Ph.D. at the Medical Scientist Training Program at Yale University. Due to her extensive experience in scientific areas, Gabeau was able to speak about her experiences in college, as well as answer any questions about careers in science and medicine. The next meeting is on November 13th, from 7:00-8:15 P.M., and any girls from Urbana who are interested in STEM are strongly encouraged to go.
