Urbana Courier

Guin Schipper, Features Editor

Urbana’s local newspaper, the Urbana Courier, is returning after three years of no longer publishing. The returning publication date is January 26, 2018. The paper will be directly delivered to homes in Urbana school district. This includes about 9,000 homes. Before the relaunch, the paper had been publishing for about ten years, 2005 to 2015.

The new publisher of the Courier is Pam Schipper and she is very excited to be bringing it back. She has lived in Urbana for fourteen years. Her husband, Martin Schipper, grew up in Urbana and was one of the first students to attend Urbana Elementary School. She loves the community because “it combines both suburban and country living. Residents can get farm fresh food and go fishing at Urbana Lake or go hiking on Sugarloaf Mountain and have lots of choices in dining. We have a wonderful library and grocery store, all of which has come to the community within the last 10 years or so.” (To read the rest of this story, pick up a copy of the January issue of the Hawkeye.)
