After two young adult men were posted on Snapchat arguing whether a fish was wet while submerged in water, practically overnight all corners of the internet began asking an odd question. Is water wet?
Water should not be considered wet for a few reasons. Claims have been made that if an object is considered wet, the molecules in water are what cause it to be wet, meaning that water is already wet itself. There is no way water can make other things wet without being “wet”. What is forgotten is that wetness is a description of when we or another object comes into contact with the water. The reason it feels as it feels when water touches the skin is actually a complex electro-chemical reaction which works at amazing speeds. So water technically is not wet since it is what causes the sensation of wetness.
