With the new school year there are lots of different activities allowed for students to partake in. It’s time we highlight this year’s UHS Drama season bringing new opportunities for students to be more involved with the drama program.
Returning student Chistopher Brookes provides his input saying “Don’t be afraid of looking ridiculous because if everyone looks ridiculous then no one really looks ridiculous.”
He brings more light to the nerve racking feeling about having to perform in front of an audience.
Theater is important for the students to be able to express themselves and show their passion through performing. Having the opportunity to be a part of theater is important for a student’s ability to grow as a person.
Theatre incorporates many different arts into one attracting the attention of students and bringing them closer to wanting to express themselves. The creativity with theater was mentioned with the words of Mr. Victor Frush saying “So many allied arts combined into one production”
Theater brings in visual arts, performances, singing and other creative outlets not only for the students in theater but also for the audience.
Theater director Mr. Stephen Ward highlights about the F wing hallway “F wing stands for family.” This highlights how important the culture is for the program to develop and allow for everyone to feel included.
Having this mindset allows students to feel included at all moments and feel that they can have a connection with other students. They feel like they have people to lean on when they need help.
The growth of the theater program is continuing to develop as time goes on. The mindset of Ward helps students to feel comfortable with joining and understand the unique experience and culture that is involved with joining theater.
It is a unique understanding of asking questions to the students. This gives us more insight on their preparations and routines the night before a performance. As well as being able to understand more about how they think about the performances going into them and practicing them.
Many of the students are extremely happy with how all of the performances play out and even when mistakes are made the mindset of the students keeps them pushing through it all. This is an amazing way for a student to develop as a person as they grow up and mature.
We hope to see you at the Night of The Living Dead on Oct 30, Nov 1 and/or Nov 2!
