Kimberly Paige Bucknor, Reporter

Kimberly Bucknor is a senior at Urbana High School. One interesting fact about her is that she shares the same birthday with two other theater kids at UHS. Her birthday is on July 11, the date when the book named “To Kill A Mockingbird” was published. “This might've been the most surprising thing I have learned in my high school career. Knowing two people with the same birthday as you is extremely rare, especially if they were born in the same year and went to the same school as you,” she explained.

She also loves baking, acting in UHS drama productions, writing online papers for The Raindrop Magazine, and participating in the Youth and Government’s Legislative program. Her most notable roles in the UHS Drama department include Quinette from 67 Cinderellas and the Russian Assassin/Mafia Member from The Pink Panther Strikes Again. “Theater always allowed me to be creative and to be someone I was never in the real world,” she said. In her leisure time, she likes to utilize The Raindrop Magazine and the Youth and Government’s Legislative program to express her thoughts on political issues such as climate change, foster care, psychology, and discrimination based on physical appearance.

One of Kimberly’s best accomplishments would be winning the National Colonial Dames of America Essay Contest. She won a free trip to Washington, D.C., in 2022 for writing an argumentative essay that was in favor of the Electoral College. In D.C., she discovered her love for Georgetown chocolate cupcakes, visiting museums and interacting with policymakers. “In my opinion, the best Georgetown cupcake is the chocolate-flavored one, frosted with chocolate ganache,” Kimberly stated.

After high school, Kimberly plans to attend college and study Marketing and the social sciences. After college, she aspires to work in nursing or health law. Her advice to high school underclassmen is to make the best of high school by trying new things. “You never know what you will be passionate about,” she added.
