Skylar cox, reporter

Skylar Cox is a junior at Urbana High, and having spent almost two years here has found her Strength and Training and Journalism elective classes to be the most fun, due to her love of working out and writing respectively. Math was the class she disliked the most, with her being more “English/History smart” than “Math/Science smart.”

After high school she plans, go to college, get a business degree w/ a minor in (sports) journalism, and possibly then go to beauty school. Her advice for freshmen figuring out how to maneuver around Urbana is to take the secret stairwells (in the C-Wing!) since the main stairs get too crowded, to not be one of those people that wait around at the bottom stairwell, and to make sure you’ve used the restroom before your next class starts.

When it comes to dealing with certain teachers giving excessive punishment, like a referral for almost falling asleep, just trying to actively avoid problems with them while also standing up for yourself when necessary is key. However, there are teachers who can leave an impact, like American Studies teacher Mr. Blaser, a “very nice and welcoming teacher”, and Biology teacher Mr. Piavis, who has a sweet disposition and “no pressure class.”

Senior year she hopes to enter the CTC program, take a multimedia production or journalism class, and start doing work study, all strides in becoming a more independent and capable her.
