For the first time this winter, Urbana has been covered with a snowy scene. Since Monday, Urbana and the surrounding area received 6 inches of snow.
The winter storm initially arrived last Friday granting students and staff an unexpected 2 hour early dismissal. Students had began to speculate whether there would be school the following Monday.
Sure enough, starting late Sunday night Urbana was blanketed with over 4 inches of snow. That Monday, the state of Maryland issued a state of emergency and Marylanders were urged to avoid travelling.
The roads were extremely icy making it difficult for students and staff to get to school, which resulted in two school closures not only in Frederick County but several others.
The conditions on Monday were so concerning that FCPS decided to close schools Monday afternoon for the following Tuesday.
Students were very glad to have 2 days off from school. Linhvy Son (Class of 2026) shared that she was able to finish assignments and was also able to spend time with friends.
Today, students enjoyed a 2 hour delay. However, many were upset that their two-day break had come to an end, and it was finally time to go back to school.
