Mckenna Grace, a child actor from Texas, is sure to be a star in the making. Having been a part of 12 major movie franchises at only 19 years old, Mckenna has been cranking out film projects since 2012. Some notable movies include Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Gifted, Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, and Colleen Hoover’s Regretting You, along with many others. But not only is Mckenna talented in acting, but she is also a singer. Having debuted her singing career in 2021, she has already performed at many notable venues and festivals, one being Lollapalooza.
According to Variety, Mckenna was given a collection of DVDs starring a classic Hollywood star, Shirley Temple. She was instantly captivated by Shirley Temple’s electric performance, causing her to take an interest in acting. Her mother then went to sign her up for acting classes, and when the acting coach assessed her talents, McKenna’s mother was urged to get an agent for her.
Students at Urbana High School comment on what makes her so successful and unique compared to other nineteen-year-olds in the industry. Bella Nunez, a senior drama student, said, “Mckenna is so clearly dedicated to her art; I mean, she’s been acting pretty much since she could talk. ” This dedication is so rare, especially for people her age; this drive sets her apart from many different people her age. Alaeya Bilal, also a senior drama student, added to this and said, “The emotional depth she has for her age is astonishing; she is so versatile and mature.”
Mckenna has set herself apart with her continued dedication from a young age. Trill Magazine even reported, “The performance (in Gifted) earned widespread praise from critics and a critics’ choice nomination. This established her as a serious young talent rather than simply another child actor.”
Despite her early success, Mckenna has remained grounded. A big factor in this is her parents. In an interview with Variety, Mckenna mentions how her parents help her success not become too much. Managing her social media and helping her see the joy in storytelling compared to fame. McKenna’s love for storytelling only further developed through her songwriting. Grace has described songwriting as “a way to process everything happening in my life.”
With many upcoming film projects, a blossoming music career, and her impressive professionalism, Mckenna Grace is carving a path for herself in the film industry. As senior Alaeya Bilal puts it, “We will be talking about her and her achievements for the industry for a long time.”
