Rachel Mitnick is a senior at Urbana, and has been taking photography classes since her freshman year at UHS, following in the footsteps of her sister who took it before her. Though she initially began taking classes purely for the enjoyment of them, she found that she had a true talent for the artistic medium.

Hawkeye Reporter: “How long have you been interested in photography?”

Rachel Mitnick: “Ever since I took a photography class in my freshman year.”

HR: “And how many photography classes have you taken at Urbana?”

RM: “Well, I am in Photography 3 right now, so three classes.”

HR: “When did you find that you really had a talent for photography?”

RM: “At first I mainly just enjoyed taking the classes, but then in Photography 3 I found out that I had a real talent for it.”

HR: “What got you interested in taking photography?”

RM: “ Well, my sister took photography in high school, she is only two years older than me, so I think that really influenced me to want to take it too.”

HR: “Do you have a favorite photographer, or a favorite style?” RM: “I do not have a favorite photographer, but I do have a favorite style. I really like to take portraits, or pictures of landscapes.”

HR: “Do you plan to study photography any further after high school?”

RM: “If I could minor in photography in college, I would. I would not want to major in it, but I would probably want to minor in it.”

HR: “Do you have any advice for students interested in taking photography?”

RM: “Find something that you are interested in, and start taking pictures of it. You can start with that.”
