Every lunch period, students head to the gym to watch the lunch basketball league. The gym gets loud quickly with basketballs bouncing, students cheering, and players talking trash during games. What started as a small league has become one of the most exciting parts of the school day, and a big reason for that is Ramy Saidi.
Ramy has become the top player in the league and is currently leading the MVP race. Every game, he plays with energy and confidence. He pushes the ball up the court fast, attacks the basket, and scores in big moments. No matter who he plays against, Ramy always seems to make something happen. “I just try to play hard every game and help my team win,” said Ramy Saidi, an 11th grader. “When the gym gets loud, it pushes me to play even better.”
One reason students enjoy watching him is because he plays aggressively the entire game. Since lunch games are short, every possession matters, and Ramy takes advantage of that. He scores quickly, forces steals, and keeps pressure on the other team. When he hits a deep shot or gets a fast-break layup, the crowd immediately reacts.
Other players also help make the games competitive. Robert Preston is known for his rebounding and physical defense. Games between Robert’s team and Ramy’s team usually bring the biggest crowds because both teams play hard and want to win. “Everybody wants to win out here, so the games get intense,” said Robert Preston, a 12th grader. “Going against players like Ramy makes the league more competitive and more fun.”
The students watching make the atmosphere even better. Juice and Cayden are always near the court, reacting to every play. Whether it is a big block, a tough shot, or an argument about a foul, the crowd stays involved the entire time.
Since this is the first year of the league, many students are surprised by how popular it has become. More students keep showing up during lunch, and some even plan their lunches around certain games. The competition and energy have made the league something students look forward to every day.
Overall, the lunch basketball league has become a fun part of school. It gives students something exciting to watch during lunch and brings everyone together. Right now, Ramy Saidi continues to stand out the most, and if he keeps playing this way, he will likely finish the season as the league’s MVP.
