Introducing Urbana’s Warm Hearts Club

Introducing The Warm Hearts Club run by Kate Linberg, Matthew Park, and Bella Flores!

Held both semesters during fourth block in room B302, this club is dedicated to helping those in need of support and helping out the community by bringing joy and hope to people’s lives. This can include planning events where club members get the chance to volunteer at the Frederick Rescue Mission by handing out food and organizing food and clothing drives. One of the leaders, Kate Linberg, says her favorite part of the club is “getting to help the local homeless shelter (Frederick Rescue Mission) by donating food, clothes, and even writing holiday cards for the FRM residents.” 

The member’s passions come from the enjoyment of helping others, and they believe that the Warm Hearts Club is a great way to do just that. The club’s society is very interactive with the community through their volunteering and club day activities. Additionally, you can expect members to be very social, helpful, and friendly with each other, establishing a sense of unity driven by the desire to improve people’s lives. 

Other events held by this club include bake sales and “holiday grahams.” In Warm Hearts Club, you are presented with many opportunities and wholesome experiences you may not get the chance to do outside of the club. For example, last year during Christmas, the club wrote holiday cards with candy canes attached to each card to Frederick Rescue Mission residents who are in the recovery program. That year, one of the staff workers said that the residents in the program had not received gifts until this year. She explained how they would peek into their stockings for the weeks leading up to Christmas like little children would. An experience like this is something that warms the residents’ hearts, whether you’re writing cards, giving back to the community, or raising funds. 

The Warm Hearts Club can’t wait to have another impactful and uplifting year for all its members, leaders, and people in need!
