Hendrix Warburton is returning for his second varsity season with Urbana lacrosse. He’s excited to take on the challenge that his 11th-grade year has to offer. Hendrix brings a high standard of confidence and energy to the Urbana Lacrosse team. This season, he has already tallied 3 caused turnovers and 2 ground balls. His own expectations help fuel his teammates: “I’m hoping we can win regionals and a state championship this season,” a goal that the entire team is hoping to accomplish.
Warburton is looking forward to stepping into a leadership position and helping out the newcomers. “My goal is to help young guys find their role and spot on the team while helping them adapt to the new culture.” With new first-year varsity players joining the team this season, excitement is brewing for former players like Hendrix.
On a more personal level, Hendrix was asked what he wants to achieve: “First team all-county and all-state honorable mention are the main goals.” These awards would reflect Hendrix’s talent on and off the field. A main reason Hendrix Warburton tries his hardest to accomplish awards as prestigious as these is because of his parents. “They always hold me to a high standard,” he stated, explaining how his parents always push him to do his best. When it comes to his teammates, he gives recognition to Jayden Sharper, expressing that his energy and positive attitude make him fun to be around during team events.
Away from the field, Hendrix has a nice balance of hobbies that he enjoys. When focusing on relaxing, he likes fishing and hanging out with his friends. These activities help him recharge and enjoy his high school life. He also takes time to work out, helping to improve his physical approach on the field. What helps Hendrix stand out is his stick skills, one of his bigger strengths. This skill gives him confidence in tight situations on game day and helps elevate the team’s overall performance. “Hendrix is a key piece of our team,” said teammate Dylan Maloney. “He is a hard worker on and off the field.” Hendrix has gained respect from his teammates due to the work ethic that he consistently shows.
One of Hendrix’s favorite things about lacrosse comes after the final whistle is blown. He loves grabbing food with his teammates after practices and games, a tradition that has helped strengthen their bond and chemistry.
The future holds plenty of excitement for the Urbana Men’s Lacrosse team. The players are eager to face every challenge presented to them, hoping to build momentum as the year progresses. Hendrix is hoping to continue playing a big role in pushing the team to the state championship they desire.
