In a matchup that always brings out the best of Frederick County baseball, Urbana High School delivered a commanding 9–3 win over Oakdale, showcasing a blend of disciplined hitting, aggressive baserunning, and steady pitching that defined the game from the opening inning. The Hawks’ performance was a complete team effort—one that reflects the identity they’ve been building all season.
Urbana and Oakdale, two respected programs in Maryland, entered the game with contrasting but equally strong baseball traditions. Urbana, competing in the 4A West region, is known for its athletic, fast‑paced style and deep roster of multi‑sport athletes. Their teams thrive on energy, chemistry, and pressure‑based baseball. Oakdale, a 3A powerhouse, has earned its reputation through disciplined defense, strong pitching development, and a gritty, competitive mindset. With the schools located just minutes apart, every meeting feels like a rivalry game.
This one belonged to Urbana from the start.
The Hawks jumped out to an early 4–0 lead, capitalizing on timely hits and forcing Oakdale into uncomfortable defensive situations. Urbana’s lineup stayed patient, working counts and stringing together quality at‑bats. Their baserunning added another layer of pressure, turning singles into scoring opportunities and keeping Oakdale’s defense on its heels.
Oakdale showed life in the fifth inning, pushing across a few runs and threatening to shift momentum, but Urbana’s pitching staff stayed composed. The Hawks responded immediately in the bottom half, adding insurance runs and reestablishing control. By the late innings, Urbana’s depth was evident—nearly every player contributed, and the dugout energy never dipped.
After the game, three Urbana juniors—Kiegan Rupinta, Landon Lee, and Trevor Collins—reflected on the win. Their comments echoed the same theme: this victory was about the team, not individual performances.
Rupinta emphasized the collective effort, noting that “every inning someone different stepped up,” and that the team’s connection was the driving force behind the win. He highlighted the importance of maintaining high energy against a tough opponent like Oakdale, saying the Hawks focused on “playing our game—staying aggressive and confident.”
Lee pointed to the team’s disciplined offensive approach. He explained that Urbana focused on simple, effective hitting: “line drives, moving runners, making their pitchers work.” He added that the win builds confidence but also reinforces the importance of sticking to their plan as the season progresses.
Collins spoke about the team’s mindset from the first pitch. Setting the tone early was a priority, and he credited the dugout’s energy for keeping the team loose and focused. He also praised the Hawks’ composure, noting that they “handled pressure really well” and responded immediately whenever Oakdale tried to shift momentum.
Urbana’s 9–3 victory wasn’t just a strong performance—it was a statement about who they are as a team. With depth, discipline, and unity on full display, the Hawks look poised to continue building on this momentum as the season unfolds.
