The Night Circus By Erin Morgenstern .
This year has sped by like no other, and Frederick has finally started to invite the cold into our red brick and wood homes. The fluorescent LED lights softly glow under the moon, and our homes are filled with gingerbread and snickerdoodle cookies to carry us out of December. Our column wants to recommend a mystical fantasy book.
The circus randomly appeared one day, filled with strange and supernatural tricks, performances, and experiences beyond the typical imagination. Le Cirque des Rêves opens only when the sun says goodnight. But behind the enchanting experiences being performed, there is a secret rivalry between two talented magicians. They must somehow outdo the other, though each has been trained since they were children, and the circus is a disguise for the undercover rivalry. A tentative romance dances between them, even when there can only be one winner.
The plot strings you along unknowingly, keeping the reader curious about what the ending could bring. The two main characters are unknowingly being brought together, with the intention of making the rivalry more intense. Written lyrically with beautiful descriptions and metaphors like no other, Morgenstern’s writing whisks you away through descriptive imagery, so it feels like you’re experiencing it along with the characters.
