
Looking for a fun fall destination? Pumpkin patches are in season. Fields or farms with many attractions such as corn mazes, pumpkins, and other goods like fall-themed food. Visit Frederick County’s most popular pumpkin patches, including Summers farm, Magnolia Meadows Farm, and Gaver Farm.
Attractions and activities
All farms offer a wide range of attractions. There are over 45 attractions located in Summers Farm with the most popular being wagon rides to pick your own pumpkins, the six-acre corn maze, barnyard animals, jumping pillows, and pig races. If you take a stroll through the barnyard, you’ll find pigs, goats, chicks, donkeys, sheep, and a cow. There is something for everyone at the farm, especially the little ones. Younger kids may enjoy the flying pigs zipline, swings, and the bull ride, Farmer Mini Golf, rope spider web, rubber ducky races, giant slides and so much more. Apple blasters and mega slides are also available to enjoy for a fee. Fireworks are scheduled for Saturdays in October, with the 19th and 26th coming up. Special guests such as Mr. Brown the Clown, Tim Hall, Mr. John and Friends, as well as live music come perform at the farm on specific dates.
Gaver Farm has over 65 attractions, with something for everyone’s enjoyment. Animal lovers may enjoy the many barnyard animals, which includes goats that you can feed, sheep, cows, alpacas, pigs, a donkey, a pony, bunnies, peacocks, turkeys, ducks, and chickens. Other fun attractions for younger kids are a giant slide, pedal carts, jumping pillows, flying pigs, playgrounds, and the beeline zipline.
Some activities that Magnolia Meadows Farm offers during their Fall Festival include: Maryland’s Largest Corn Maze, farm animal interactions, mini ziplines, their barrel train, ropes course, hayride, trike track, gem mining, and an area with activities designated for little kids. Additionally, the farm has over 20 attractions, such as Maryland’s largest corn maze, jumping pillows, mini ziplines, pedal carts, and farm animal interactions. Apple cannons and mining for gems are other popular paid attractions. Guests are welcome to feed the goats, sheep, horses, cows, and more, by purchasing an animal-feeding cup.
Food and shops
If you’re interested in purchasing a sweet treat from Summers Farm, you may want to consider a caramel crunch apple cider float, a highly popular slushie made with apple cider, soft serve vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and a hard caramel crunch with peanuts around the rim. If you’re looking for something with more grease, consider the pulled pork mac n cheese, classic chicken tenders, a burger, personal pizza, or fries, all found at different market locations. Stop by for hot chocolate or a pumpkin spice latte with cookies and/or an apple cider donut at Ms. Linda’s Cookies and Donuts.
Make sure you come hungry, because Gavers Farm has many small food markets. The Donut Hut features a wide variety of donuts, apple cider slushies, kettle corn, hot or iced lattes with flavors, pie slices with ice cream, and more. Craving a grill? The Barn Grill has personal pizzas, chicken tenders, cheese burgers, hotdogs, and mac dogs as entrées. Some sides are french fries, cheese fries, mac n cheese, nacho cheese, and apple slices with caramel.
Magnolia Meadow’s Farm offers a wide variety of foods and drinks, including entrees such as hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, pulled brisket nachos, pulled brisket sandwiches, brisket mac & cheese, and a mango & lime quinoa wrap. Drinks that they offer include tea (sweet and unsweet), fresh lemonade (original and strawberry), hot coffee, hot chocolate, hot and cold apple cider, and water. They also have a dessert menu, including soft serve (pumpkin or vanilla), apple cider donuts, apple cider donut ice cream sandwiches, apple cider float, and their caramel apple nachos (loaded or original). Magnolia Meadows Farm also has an on-farm market, including pre-picked pumpkins, apple cider donuts, honey from bees on the farm, fresh cinnamon rolls, cookies and treats, candy, jarred goods (such as apple butter, preserves, and salsas), and gift items.
Pumpkin and flower picking
Summers farm offers classic pumpkin picking in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Some of which include Atlantic Giant and Big Moose, to uniquely colored favorites like Full Moon, Hooligan, Lumina, and World of Color. Hayrides take guests from the farm to the pumpkin patch. Around the patch, there are photo props to take the perfect fall picture in the scenic farm view.
Enjoy free hayrides to pick your own pumpkins or apples at Gavers Farm. There are so many apples to choose from such as Blondee, Buckeye, Ultra Gold, Crimson Crisp, Empire, Evercrisp, Ludacrisp, Cameo, and Fuji. Purchase a bag at the Farm Market and fill it up with as many apples as you would like as long as it fits. The Pumpkin Patch is 12 acres long and filled with 37 types of pumpkins, squash, and gourds.
Magnolia Meadow’s U-Pick Fields are accessible on Saturdays and Sundays until the last hayride at 5:30 p.m. every day, with the fields closing at 6:00 p.m. Many visitors have enjoyed the beautiful scenic views for taking photos. You can pick from pumpkins, gourds, sunflowers, and cut flowers; all in a variety of sizes, shapes, and colors.
