The Urbana halls are filled with some of the most brilliant, creative minds in all of Frederick County, and Audrey Houghton (11) is certainly no exception. As a junior here at Urbana High School and proud Libra, Audrey has contributed so much of her creativity and is what anyone would call a true artist. When asked what her favorite art form is, she said, “My favorite artform is definitely pencil or graphite art because I cannot figure out digital art for the life of me.” She keeps an art journal with her at all times and enjoys filling it with all kinds of beautiful images.

It’s obvious that art is Audrey’s clear strong suit, but I can’t say the same about other courses. Apparently certain STEM courses at this school are really doing a number on her. “I’m currently in my first couple days of Chemistry, and I’m already suffering,” she expressed. That being said, math-related classes can be brutal sometimes so who can really blame her.

One thing people don’t really know about Audrey but absolutely should is that she’s a secret kalimba player! When asked what her hidden talent is she revealed, “I know how to play kalimba, and I’ve been bringing it around to ‘Rick Roll’ people.” Who knew Audrey took such an interest in trolling? However, her musical interests don’t just stop there. She also has great taste in music! Her top artists on Spotify are Fish in a Bird Cage, Penelope Scott, and Doja Cat.

It should be noted that Audrey is also very wise beyond her years. When asked about her one regret from being in high school was, she said that she had wished that she had put more effort into her freshman year during Covid. “I feel like I’ve put forth my best foot every other year, but freshman year I was kind of lacking a little bit,” she admits. She’s also very sure of herself and tries not to be influenced by others. Although she has many people in her life that she looks up to, she doesn’t view anyone as a particular role model of hers. “At the end of the day, I trust myself to make the right decisions, and I’m not looking to somebody else,” she explained. She’s the kind of person that does her own thing, and that’s what makes her so unique and inspiring.
