Competition In The City

The Urbana High School choirs are ready for competition. Three separate competitions for all three choirs, including chamber ensemble, show choir, and concert choir, will soon be performed at the Riverside Church in Upper Manhattan, New York City. They will be performing against other choirs. Our Hawks our scheduled to leave April 12 and will be returning April 15.

During this competition, our choirs will be ranked on musicality and performance. All year they have worked hard in preparation for this supreme competition.

While in New York, the choirs will be provided with the chance to sightsee many of the big names in New York. Popular spots that will be visited are Top of the Rock as well as the Ellen Stardust Diner. At this 50s themed-retro diner, the choir students will enjoy singing servers and a menu of American classics.

The choir competitions are traditions that have been done since the school opened. Ms. McCormick was the founder of the competition trips for the choirs at UHS. Ms. Cosby, music teacher at Urbana High School, said, “Out of respect to Ms. McCormick, one of my big things when I took this job is that I wanted to continue the tradition of taking these trips. The high school itself has its traditions and I wanted to respect those.” To read the rest of this story, pick up a copy of The Hawkeye from the newsstand near the front office or the media center.
