Madison Mustafa, Reporter

Madison Mustafa, otherwise known as Madi, is a senior at Urbana High School. She participates in sports all year round, running cross country in the fall, indoor track in the winter and outdoor track in the spring. Her family life consists of her and her parents spending many hours reading outside together, or drinking tea by the fire. Her grandma lives very close by, and her cousins like to drop in any time they want to. She describes her family as “generally quiet, until the cousins come around!” Madi’s family is Pakistinian, her grandparents grew up in Palestine. Because of her family relations to Palestine, Madi has taken a great interest in Middle Eastern affairs. She feels very strongly about the human rights that have been violated in Afghanistan right now. Her strong pride for her Palestinian heritage has motivated Madi to want to speak Arabic. Later in life, Madi wants to have a dual major in Arabic Linguistics as well as psychology, specifically clinical trauma psychology. Her grandparents have severe PTSD from their childhood in Palestine. She wants to learn and understand how the mind works, as well as how her own family thinks. Using this knowledge, she can better understand how it affects their everyday lives. She also wants to help people get over their personal trauma. Madi has already taken classes to help her prepare for these majors. She is currently taking AP Psychology, as well as French with Madame Kacko. Her French class is very informative and entertaining. Madi explains that the students have many chances to speak and listen to the language. In addition to taking these classes, Madi also enjoys her sports. She has had an amazing time running in track and cross country. One of her favorite memories from track is running in the Boonsboro races. She always breaks her personal records there, and her Coach, Coach Ecalano, always gets very excited for her to run. She “always feels the biggest sense of achievement” when she runs in those races. Madi is extremely excited to end her senior year surrounded by friends and doing the things she loves.
