Passionate Singer: Marguerite Haddad
Marguerite Haddad, a senior at Urbana, has a gift in music, and a passion for singing. She is known for her diligence and dedication to Urbana’s music program, and has taken part in every musical Urbana has put on since she was a freshman.
Hawkeye Reporter: So, how many music classes have you taken at Urbana?
Marguerite Haddad: I have been taking Show Choir for all four years of high school, and I joined the Concert Choir this year.
HR: Why did you decide to take those classes?
MH: I like singing, and my music teacher in middle school recommended I take classes in high school. She and Mrs. McCormick were friends.
HR: Do you have any musical activities outside of school?
MH: I have been in the Chamber Ensemble since last year, and I have also been in the musical for all four years of high school.
HR: You have to audition to be in the Chamber Ensemble, right? What made you decide to audition?
MH: Yes, you have to audition to join. I thought it would be fun, and it is. I really like it.
HR: What is it like to be in the Chamber Ensemble?
MH: We do a lot of more difficult pieces of music that we do not usually do in regular classes. Plus, it is a nice group of kids, and we work together nicely.
HR: What is the hardest part about being in Chamber Ensemble?
MH: Some kids don’t stop talking and listen. It is difficult to progress when there is no respect.
HR: Do you take any music lessons?
MH: No, I just practiced and developed my voice.
HR: How long have you been singing?
MH: Well, I have been in choir since I was five or six, so since kindergarten.
HR: Do you plan to pursue a career related to music after high school?
MH: I do not really know what I want to do or study in college yet, but I do know that I want to be in choir while I am in college.
HR: Do you have any advice for people who are interested in joining the choir?
MH: I would recommend people to take choir because it is all about having fun, and we are very welcoming. We are like a big family. You do not have to be able to sing, either.
