Stepping into the spotlight: How Reagan Davis lights up the dance floor.

Stepping into the spotlight: How Reagan Davis lights up the dance floor.

Twirling through life with a dash of humor and a pirouette of wit, Reagan Davis, a dancer here at UHS, inspires people on and off the stage. Her bright personality and infectious laugh illuminates every corner of UHS’s hallways.

Reagan’s dance career started at a very young age, “I remember dancing around the house, or really just anywhere when I was little. No matter what I was doing I was always dancing,” she shared.

Reagan’s mom, Sonja Davis, is a part of a very popular and loved dance studio, Urbana Dance Company. This is where Reagan’s passion truly grew. Her inspiration for the art comes from her mother, “Watching videos of my mom dancing when she was younger really inspires me to follow in her footsteps.”

Whether she is taking on a new lyrical dance or just life in general, she always has a smile on her face and a positive attitude. Reagan has been an inspiration to myself ever since we started being friends in the second grade. Not only is she an inspiration to me, but everyone around her.

Reagan’s favorite piece she performed was a solo she did for fellow sophomore here at UHS, Kayla DIckens. When I asked her about it she didn’t hesitate to share, “My solo was about sexual assault and the impact it has on someone. how other people’s opinions can affect you and how they will always have something to say. I was inspired to do this when something similar happened to one of my close friends. I chose a song that really stood out to me and I find it to fit the story I’m trying to tell.”

Kayla attended the dance recital here at the high school with her mom. Reagan’s empowering dance brough both of them to tears. “I remember hearing the music and seeing the story that she was betraying and the emotion just hit me. She truly is an amazing person and an even better best friend.” Shared Kayla Dickens.

Reagan expresses the profound impact of dance on her life. She shares, “It helps me respond faster to things, when I stress, dancing helps clear my mind. It has taught me trust because, during lifts, I need to rely on other people and trust them.” Through dance, Reagan has discovered not only physical strength but also emotional resilience and the power of collaboration.

As the curtain descends on Reagan’s high school dance career, she prepares for the next chapter of her life. She plans on continuing her dance career by joining a college dance team in the next coming up years. So, if you ever hear a loud laugh or weird noises coming from the halls of UHS, chances are it’s probably Reagan.

The class she loved most in high school was her freshman year science class with Ms. Sollenberger. This really sparked Rayna’s interest in science.
